Ever Wonder What Your Preschooler Does All Day?

Choosing the right preschool for your child is one of the most important decisions you’ll make as a parent.

These early years lay the foundation for how your child learns, grows, and connects with the world. The environment they’re in during this time can shape their future in more ways than one.

But we also know how overwhelming it can feel to figure out which child care center is the right fit from a sea of preschools. Not just for your child, but for you, too.

After all, you’re not the one sitting in the classroom, playing on the rug, or having lunch at the tiny tables. So how can you really know what goes on inside once you’ve said goodbye at drop-off?

Are they being cared for with love? Are they eating well? Are they engaged and learning? Are they comfortable, happy, and safe? These are just a few of the questions that might run through your mind.

That’s why today, we want to give you a real, inside look at what a typical day looks like for a preschooler at our Northridge Preschool. We want to highlight key moments during their time with us so you can feel confident, informed, and excited about what your child’s days could look like in Petite School House.

What Happens After You Say Goodbye?

The moment you say goodbye at the entrance, your child begins a journey of growth, discovery, and learning that we take very seriously.

At our early learning center, we see each child as a unique individual with unlimited potential. We are here to help them become the best version of themselves, starting the moment they walk through our doors.

But we also recognize the vital role you as parents play in your child’s development. You are their first teachers, and we deeply value the partnership we share with you in their educational journey.

That’s why we encourage our parents to stay involved, both inside and outside the classroom. Whether it’s volunteering to help with activities or participating in special events, we want you to feel like a vital part of the Petite School House community. This connection ensures that your child’s learning experience is seamless and uninterrupted, extending far beyond the classroom.

Once your child steps into our day care center, they aren’t just another student. Through our Reggio Emilia approach, we view each child as a co-learner with valuable knowledge to share.

With the guidance of our teachers, your child is empowered to direct their own learning, exploring topics and interests that ignite their curiosity and meet their developmental needs.

How Will Your Child Learn at Preschool?

At Petite School House, we believe in fostering your child’s holistic development by using a blend of two dynamic early learning approaches: the Project-Based Approach and the Reggio Emilia Approach.

By combining these two philosophies, we provide a learning experience that goes beyond the basics, encouraging children to learn through real-life experiences, play, drama, and a variety of verbal and non-verbal forms of expression.

Our classroom is designed with multi-sensory, sequential, and self-correcting materials that make learning engaging and intuitive. Everything your child sees, hears, touches, and tastes is part of their educational journey, enhancing their understanding of the world around them.

Through the Project Approach, your child will have the opportunity to construct knowledge in meaningful ways. They will explore topics over time, collaborating with peers, debating ideas, and growing their thinking skills. This encourages self-directed learning in a rich, interactive environment.

Children are encouraged to explore, play, and express themselves creatively and confidently. As part of our language curriculum, we introduce students to both French and Spanish, expanding their linguistic abilities and cultural awareness.

Above all, we focus on creating an environment that is not only stimulating but also safe and nurturing, allowing your child to explore and grow with confidence.

Is The Food At Day Care Good For Your Child?

Proper nutrition plays a key role in your child’s development and their ability to learn and grow. That’s why we’ve created a homemade, child-friendly menu designed to ensure your child gets fresh, balanced, and nutritious meals every day.

Our meals are prepared from scratch, in-house, each day. We serve a diverse, multicultural menu that introduces children to a variety of flavors and cuisines, all within a warm, family-style setting in their classroom. This fosters not only healthy eating habits but also a sense of community as they enjoy their meals together.

For example, on a typical day, children might enjoy a warm bowl of whole-grain oatmeal with fresh fruit for breakfast, followed by a protein-packed chicken stir-fry with vegetables for lunch, and an afternoon snack of homemade hummus with crunchy veggie sticks.

These meals are designed to keep your child fueled with the right nutrients throughout the day. We ensure that each meal follows State Food Guidelines, so your child receives the essential nutrients needed for optimal growth and learning.

We also understand that each child is unique, so we can accommodate any special dietary or eating needs, ensuring that every child’s nutritional requirements are met in a safe, inclusive environment.

Play Spaces Are Where Learning Meets Fun

Inspired by nature, our classrooms are filled with natural sunlight and wooden furnishings, creating a calm, inviting space that encourages exploration and creativity. This aligns with the Reggio Emilia approach, where the environment is considered the “third teacher.”

Our outdoor areas are equally thoughtfully designed. With fun bike paths, large sandboxes, and high-quality playground structures, children have plenty of room to move, climb, and play.

We’ve also ensured the highest quality surfacing for added safety. There are four separate playgrounds, each suited to different age groups, and natural shaded areas with trees and bushes for moments of calm.

To ensure your peace of mind, every classroom and playground is equipped with cameras, so management can monitor the spaces throughout the day, ensuring your child is well taken care of.

These play spaces help develop essential skills like social interaction, motor coordination, and creativity, all while providing a fun, safe, and nurturing environment.

Pick Them Up Ready for the Real World

As the day comes to an end and you arrive to pick up your child, you’ll see firsthand how much they’ve grown. They leave not only with a big smile but with new skills and experiences, ready to apply them to the world around them.

Whether they’re excited to share what they’ve learned, tell you about their creative play, or recount a new friendship they’ve made, you’ll witness how the day’s experiences have shaped them into more confident, independent, and curious learners.

At Petite School House, every moment is designed to prepare your child for a future where they can confidently navigate new challenges, express themselves, and engage with others in meaningful ways.
